About Juárez

The long history of Ciudad Juárez dates back to 1659 as El Paso del Norte. It grew into an important part of the developing trade between Santa Fe and Chihuahua. The 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo established the Rio Grande as the border between the United States and Mexico, sowing the seeds of what would eventually become El Paso for the areas north of the river. Ciudad Juárez grew into Mexico’s largest border town by 1910, but was severely impacted in the Mexican Revolution. It since recovered and has since grown into a center of trade and commerce.

Today Ciudad Juárez is a vibrant destination with lots to do and see. The city’s long history makes it a great place for history buffs, with museums devoted to various eras. Historical landmarks like the Guadalupe Mission and the Benito Juárez Monument, honoring the man whose name the city bears, are some of the many sites to see. For a more interactive experience, check out The Tumbleweed Interactive Space or the Parque Central Hermanos Escobar which includes some animal enclosures.
